Developing Your Real Estate Knowledge and Leadership Skills – Improving Your Business to Better Serve your Clients, Association and Community!
Effective REALTOR® Associations require an informed membership and leaders who understand and can anticipate the existing and future needs of the Association and Community. The TIGAR Leadership Academy will provide REALTORS® with the insight and tools needed to help lead your clients and TIGAR through an ever-evolving real estate landscape. This program is offered in an effort to better equip TIGAR members with improved leadership skills and a more informed understanding of industry and community issues.
Objectives
- Equip leaders with the skills needed to guide our association, industry, and communities.
- Allow leaders to strengthen personal development through networking and collaboration.
- Train to be effective ambassadors for our industry.
- Provide opportunities for professional and personal development.
Who Should Apply?
TIGAR REALTOR® members who have an interest in developing a deeper understanding of the real estate industry and those who wish to get involved in leadership at the local or state level are encouraged to participate. Previous leadership experience is not required.
The program will also provide personal leadership development objectives, including:
- Organization and Volunteer Leadership Training
- Public Advocacy and Spokesperson Training
- Community Service Involvement

Applications will be accepted until January 15, 2023. Candidates will be informed of their acceptance to the Academy by February 1, 2023.

MEETING 1 – The REALTOR® Association World

Whether you’re new to TIGAR or an experienced agent, this course will give you the necessary tools and understanding to make your REALTOR® leadership experience positive and rewarding. This course provides a comprehensive overview to give you the background and resources you need to pursue a leadership role with the REALTOR® association. Session topics include:
- Association Structures
- Trends facing the Industry & Association
- Volunteer Responsibilities & Roles
- Meeting Management, Roberts Rules of Order…and more!
MEETING 2 – Leadership in the Real Estate Industry

The real estate industry is far more than merely buying and selling properties for our clients. As an industry, we are faced with local, regional, state, and federal issues that affect our Association, as well property and homeowner rights. Invited guests will address their leadership roles and opportunities to advance our industry, as well as the impact on their own businesses.
MEETING 3 – Meet Your State/County/Local Representatives
DATE AND TIME
As a heavily regulated industry, the role for REALTOR® government affairs and public policy advocacy has never been more in demand. This session will focus on the various tools and resources available to REALTOR® associations and the need for supporting “Realtor Party” initiatives and candidates. Invited guest speakers to include local elected leaders.
C.A.R. Legislative Days in Sacramento
DATE AND TIME TBD
Attend the C.A.R. Legislative Days in Sacramento. If you have attended Meetings 1-3 TIGAR will cover the cost of flights and lodging for 3 days and 2 nights to the C.A.R. Legislative Days; all other expenses are to be the responsibility of the attendee.
MEETING 4 – Community Involvement and Recap
DATE AND TIME TBD
As real estate professionals, our efforts fostering home ownership and property rights extend broadly to building better communities and regions. This session will focus on the benefits and role of community volunteerism and civic participation that may not be directly REALTOR® related. For example, serving your community as a planning or parks commissioner, serving on a non-profit board of directors, or volunteering with non-profit groups such as Feeding America or Habitat for Humanity.
Wrap-up of the TIGAR Leadership Development Program, including:
